Celina grabbed her aching head. Another headache, just like the day before, but perhaps it was more violent. Her stomach lurched uncertainly and she rubbed her belly while it heaved and roiled. It was only four in the afternoon, too early to head home, but she glanced around the office, looking vainly for an escape.
“Hey, Celina? Can you cover for me tomorrow? I’m going to call in sick ‘cause I’ve got a hot date tomorrow night,” Sylvia, her cubicle mate, whispered to her excitedly.
Celina closed her eyes. Great. Just what I need. “Honestly? Syl, I don’t know. I’m not feeling so great.” She mumbled a little,

knowing what Sylvia’s reaction would be.

“Have you been to see the doctor yet?”
Celina swivelled in her seat and cast a dark glance at her workmate. “I’m going to call—” Her words ended abruptly as the lights dimmed and went out. “Damn… This is like the third time this month. What the hell is going on?” The heat of the office space swelled as the air conditioning failed. The cloying scents of a multitude of perfumes and hot sweaty bodies in the summer wave closed in on her.
Celina’s tummy jostled once more, demanding her attention. She rose, racing unerringly to the bathroom, making it just in time to empty the contents violently into the toilet. The clunk of the door somewhere behind alerted her to the fact that she was no longer alone. She sighed loudly. Sylvia had followed her, she knew. The sound of wood banging closed reverberated off the walls. The ensuing echo splintered her thoughts.
“Celina, you have to see the doctor.” There was concern in Sylvia’s voice and Celina shied away from it.
Celina leaned limply against the wall of the stall, the dim security lighting flickering in and out. “Yeah, I think you’re right.” She didn’t want to face it, but the headaches had become an almost everyday occurrence in the past few months. One she’d tried to ignore, but with little success. But something had to be wrong. Her stomach quivered at the possible reasons.
She pushed away from the wall and headed for the sink, turned the tap and was rewarded by the sound of running water. Celina scooped the liquid up, washed her face and swilled some around in her mouth, trying to banish the sour taste. Her knees shook like wet noodles beneath her.
“Okay, I’ll ring in the morning and see how soon I can get in for an appointment.” A sound from outside caught her hearing, a thudding noise, as if someone was testing the door. She wouldn’t be able to hide from the problems for much longer and right now, she really needed some air. “We’d better get out there.”
“Yeah. Okay.” She heard the concern in Sylvia’s voice. “Will you be okay to get home?”
They slowly made their way through the door and back into the office, where the blast of heat and the waft of body essences made her want to gag again. She struggled through one shallow breath then another.
“I’m planning on going straight home anyway.” Celina shuffled towards her desk and groped around in the dark, hunting for her phone. She grasped it in her damp hand and pressed the screen, waiting for it to lighten sufficiently to see her desk. She spied her bag and opened the desk to find her keys. “It looks like these are going to be out for a while. Can you…?” She indicated the light fittings, then towards the office at the end of the row, hoping Sylvia would understand.
“I’ll go tell the supervisor. You go on. Head home and take some painkillers.”
With a small nod, which she quickly regretted as a pulse wavered through her throbbing skull, Celina headed to the emergency stairs. As she passed desks she saw others grabbing up their items, including laptops. No doubt they obviously thought the same thing.
Finally she made her way down the fourteen flights of stairs. On the way she heard many voices, some shrill and others filled with laughter in the darkness. Here and there she caught glimpses of light, probably from mobiles, illuminating the gloom.
One foot after another she plodded down the steps, her head aching viciously and finally, light glowed ahead and a breeze started to clear the stuffy wooliness from her head.

Javed shook his head. The missive he held in his hands filled him with emotions he hadn’t experienced in hundreds of years. He knew what it was. It was confusion. The sense of having the carpet jerked out from beneath him. His hands felt clammy.
“So… That’s your destiny, there in your hands.”
His hand shook and the sound of parchment moving back and forth filled the air. He held not just his destiny, but also that of so many others.
He glanced at Xavier, his master, and Hope. They were two very powerful vampires as well as his friends. “I don’t know what to say.”
Hope rose and glided towards him. “You don’t have to say anything. We will say it all. Your leaving us on one level makes us sad, but you will be a master in your own right. You’ve earned this.”
Javed wanted to sputter and stop her words, but he couldn’t. The intent of the letter was clear. On the night of the next full moon, Cressida would grant him his own nest. He would be elevated to the position of master.
If that wasn’t enough to accept, there was the knowledge that there hadn’t been a new house in over a century.
There was so much to do. So many decisions to make and all of them would fall on him. He would need to choose a Yeux Secondes, the human who would oversee the financial and day-to-day aspects of the nest. He would also require a second, a guardian who would stand at his side. A fellow warrior, in whom he could place his trust, one who would help him build a safe haven in their house. He would need witches to help protect the vampires and followers… Where the hell do I even start with that?
“You’ll need a house. Somewhere for your people to call home.” Hope grinned and he saw the lurking humour she couldn’t quell. “I know of an interior designer, if you want their details?”
He rolled his eyes, remembering the problems she’d had with her parents before she had been turned and the way she’d arranged for the entire block of units to be furnished. It had taken her one night to order and arrange for the delivery of all the furniture. Unlike the immense task her mother had proposed.
But her smile died away as her own memories must have surfaced.
“I don’t know about that, but if you’re offering help, then I’ll accept it. I don’t have a clue where to start.” He moved back to the armchair and slumped into it. “I don’t usually concern myself with those types of problem.” He allowed his head to drop into his hands and muttered. “I don’t think I’m ready yet.”
A soft touch on his shoulder captured his attention. “Cressida thinks you are. Otherwise she would not have petitioned the Councillors. Now come on. You need to start planning. We have one month to arrange your investiture…”

Autism Awareness Bloghop - April 15th

As you can see from the banner above, April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, and this year heralds it's seventh anniversary.

This year, as she has done so for the past three,  RJ Scott is hosting her April Autism Blog Hop, and I am so happy to have been included.

As with all participants,  I have an autism fact to share with you:

"Some people live with autism for their entire lives without ever getting a formal diagnosis"

I have to thank RJ for giving me this fact, as it is so close to the heart. My now fourteen year old has only recently been diagnosed with high functioning autism, after an EIGHT year battle to get him help. He had been branded as lazy, uncooperative, and just generally uninterested in even trying at school, by his teachers, who would simply report that he wasn't trying hard enough and was unwilling to learn, on his report cards.

It wasn't until he followed other boys out of school and truanted, that the school started to take notice, and finally approved the testing I had been begging for, and listened to the counsellor's cries for help.

Even with the results, the battle continues as he looks like a regular kid, just with a few strange quirks and zero social skills.  Add in his younger brother who has ADHD, and our life with two in the spectrum is never dull, but I wouldn't' change it for the world. They are my boys, and as the old saying goes "To  know them, is to love them", and the more awareness we can get out about those who fall under the Autistic spectrum, the more people will realise just how special they really are!

I would like to give away an eBook copy of my last book, Paws, Claws, and their Triple-F, which also highlights differences and acceptance. To win, simply comment and leave your email address. I will randomly pick a name on the 20th of this month. Perhaps you would like to share  your own story with autism, share a fact you have learnt during the hop? I would love to hear from you!

BLURB
Farron had been a bad boy...a playboy, who blamed his lack of connection to another, on Fate.  But Fate has a twisted sense of humour and a special place for those who damn her, as her bitch, and she had a spot all marked out with Farron’s name on it. Tasked with fixing Fate’s screw-ups and helping those who have missed their moment to connect with their soul-mate, the pain of knowing he will never have that for himself is almost more than he can bear. But he does so, with a smile for each couple he unites. That is until he meets an untouched little man who makes him want to curse fate all over again, Ben. No matter how much he wishes it wasn’t so, Ben isn’t for him, though. He’s destined for another, Mason.
Mason fled Tasmania like the devil was on his heels, and it was. Tasmanian devil shifters, that is. As the only submissive devil shifter born, he is driven away, smuggling himself in the boot of a car aboard a ferry to the mainland, to escape the constant physical abuse at the hands of other male devils, over territorial rights. Alone and destitute, his life hits rock bottom as each day his life seeps away a little more. When a gorgeous dingo shifter shows up claiming to be his Fairy Father with promises of bringing him to his mate, Mason could have cried. Not in joy, but in grief. It seems fate has screwed up yet again...as Mason’s time has just run out.

My Writing Process Blog Hop - 31st March - @ellen__cross

Well, I am sitting here, so I guess you know what that means. Yes, I've been kidnapped by the blog hop fairies and asked to sit and answer all their questions. Mind you, it would be nice if they had coaxed me with chocolate, and not their whips and paddles! Who knew the little sprites could spank so hard, or love it so much! I guess the only sensible thing to do is to sit quietly and tell them whatever they want to know, before they follow through with their threat to erotically torture the answers they want out of my friends, Khul Waters, Evi, and Beany...oops! Too late! A couple of them just headed off rope and duct tape 0.o  RUN GUYS!!!!! Oh dear, they weren't fast enough...

Perhaps if answer the questions, they might not go so hard on them?

1) What am I working on?

Now, and for the rest of this year, I am heads down, bum up--such a lovely position!--writing further additions to the Preternatural Rescue Centre series. Fractured is my latest WIP, and will be released on the 15th of April, at eXtasy Books, followed by Betrayed on the 15th of May, and so on, for the rest of the year.

 Prologue Excerpt:
Krogan peered into the Well of all Tears, his brow furrowing into deeply grooved lines that showed the true depth of his concern. His fingers gripped the gold gilt edging of the pool that lapped with a gentle ripple from the gathering moisture far above, falling as a single teardrop at a time into the shallow waters below. The reflected image shimmered, quivering in a motion that matched the unsettled trembling of his churning stomach.

Tiona—the other half of his heart— wrapped her arm around his waist, weaving herself under his arm and against the breadth of his chest as she too peered into the waters, shivering as she watched the fragments of the future unfold before her. A tear slipped from the corner of her eye and traced down her cheek, sliding down her chin and joining those shed by the heavens, into the pool.

Krogan's gaze swept around the great hall, so bleak and dark...as dark as the heaviness that weighed on the hearts of his gathered brothers, sisters, and their mates. Each wept, their souls crying out throughout the spiritual plane for the lives that would perish, if the world were to continue on the path it had been set upon.

Men, women, children, and preter...life held little meaning, as brother turned on brother, friend on friend, and lover on lover...while their enemies united in strength. Gathered like rats from a fire, the remains of mankind huddled within the vision, scavenging through the leftovers of war, while famine and pestilence extended their reach and claimed what little remained of a once flourishing land.

The dregs of society, skin traders and peddlers of misery, ruled those unfortunate enough to be captured and enslaved—their lives little more than added currency for those who could pay for the enjoyment of their pain, their blood.

With a fraction of the population left and a complete loss of humanity running rampant, Krogan knew what he was seeing was indeed the end of days, come to life in all its sickening glory.

Obeying the edict of the gods and simply letting this future come to pass...just the thought of doing so was unfathomable to both his mind and heart. The only prevention was action. As he looked around the hall, he knew that as the offspring of a god, they all had to step forth and join in his efforts. While they might not be able to physically move in and interfere, there were ways they could give humanity a chance, indirectly.

He straightened and rolled his shoulders, a new resolve firm in his mind as he met the eye of each of his brothers, sisters, and their mates. While his siblings were each unique in their spirits and abilities, they were born of the same father—a god who apparently loved variety, yet cared little for the responsibilities left to him by his choices in bed partners. It didn't matter. They didn't see shifter, vampire, warlock, and more, as they looked toward each other...they saw family, an unbreakable bond that tied them to each other for eternity. It was their father's careless ways—that had sowed the blackened seed and created the root of destruction that unfolded before them—so they would deal with it.

"We can all see the path that has been set. It is the end, the price each life will pay if we do not act. While we do not have the power to divert the disaster before us, we can deliver those who will.

"Join with me. Let our own blood repair that which is broken, before all life falls to pieces." A round of nods and determined expressions met his request.

Drawing on his shifter spirit, he focused on his life energy, pulling a single thin filament from within his soul and into his awaiting hands. Tiona did the same, holding the golden spark of her thread in her small, cupped palms. He guided her to slide her breathtakingly beautiful essence into his palm, to join with his own.

The threads swirled, Krogan's silver essence entwining itself against Tiona's gold. They writhed, rolled, until they blended into one. A bright flare of pure light, that heralded the starting spark of new life, blinded Krogan for an instant. The tiny new life felt warm against his skin, pulsing with a gentle energy, so fragile, yet bursting with promise, with hope.

He turned to his brothers and sisters, smiling at the rainbow of colours nestled safely within the hands of each new father or mother. They turned to the well, joining voices as they murmured the incantation that opened the veil between earth and their own higher plane of existence. The veil parted with a slight swooshing sound, and the men and women farewelled their offspring, before releasing them through the parting in the veil with hearts heavy, yet happy at the same time.

Their children would find a safe haven among the wombs of the worthy, those who would protect the new life with their own. They would grow, unaware of the heavy weight of responsibility that awaited them until each child's true spirit awoke to their destiny when the time arrived to act. Until then, Krogan and his siblings would watch, and wait...

 2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?

I love the underdog in a story, those characters who find they are unworthy of love, or unlovable. You will find one in each story I write, as they find the love they never thought they would, and overcome all odds to claim it and keep it for their own.

3) Why do I write what I do

I have always had my head in the clouds, a daydreamer even as a small child. Being the much younger and only female sibling, I hid away and resorted to my books for companionship. It was only a natural progression that I start writing those stories, and when I won 1st place in a writing competition at only 9, it encouraged me to keep going.

4) How does your writing process work?

Oh, now that is a hard one, but there are similarities in all stories that I write.

Firstly, I will get hit with an idea. Sometimes a photo triggers it, sometimes a song, other times a feeling. Whatever it is, when the idea hits you will find me diving for a notepad and pen, or jotting down details onto my phone, for later retrieval.

The idea will usually sit until I have time, but often they demand I act--also why I have a WIP folder stuffed full of partially written stories!

While some books are a breeze, almost writing themselves, others truly are a labour of love, and the dreaded writers block hits with almost every one, at some point in the story. It took me a couple of books, but I soon realized that when I become blocked, the only real solution is to stop stressing over that point in the story, and to place a mark in the manuscript so I can go back to that point in time, and to move on. Some stories become almost like a jigsaw puzzle.

Okay, I think I have appeased the fairies. Well, perhaps, bored them to bits might be the more accurate term. They are leaving, evil glints in their eyes and their handy dandy notebook of questions in hand. Perhaps I should warn Khul, Evi and Beany that they are in for? Nah...let's just head on over and see how they survive the experience!

Khul Waters:  I am a 54-year-old Australian. I write to express the joy I find in life. I began with short stories and poetry that mostly seemed to focus on one theme—the nature of love between men and women. Specifically, I am intrigued by the nature of Dom/submissive relationships. Not the stereotypical leather and whips type, but the need for many men to take a dominating role in lovemaking and for many women to take a submissive role. My present stories feature this pre-occupation.

Evi Asher: Evi is a die-hard romantic, who firmly believes in happy endings, and loves all things paranormal. She lives in South Africa, with her (very patient) husband, two children, and too many pets, including a cockatiel who loves to sit on her desk, and chew the pink rhinestones off Evi’s mouse while she’s trying to write.

Beany Sparks: Beany Sparks lives in Western Australia. She first started reading romance novels in 2008, but it wasn't until January 2010 when her Kindle got delivered (which she had brought herself on Christmas Day 2009) that the world of erotic romance opened its doors to her, and she hasn't looked back.
Since English was never her strong subject at school she never expected to write a story, let alone try to get it published. With suggestions and support from friends, her muse—“affectionately" known as PITA—was finally able to break free, and in January 2014 her first story was written. Since she can’t put PITA back in his box—she's tried!—Beany has decided to give in and team up with him.

Together they’ve made plans to write both MF and MM stories. Why? Because love isnt gender specific, love is love.

Bunker-play Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Welcome to the Bunker-play Blog hop!

Thanks to the antics of such bad boys as Tiger Woods, Johnny Knoxville, and the movie, Happy Gilmore (gotta love Adam Sandler!!), golf has been put into the spotlight in years of late, bringing it out of the shadows and onto the headlines.

I have to admit, I played as a young girl and loved it. Saturday mornings spent taking my teen aggression out on a hopeless ball--and anyone else silly enough to be on the fairway while I was swinging...FORE!! What was not to love? I even won a prize as the best  female aged 12-16. Okay, I was the only girl in that age group, so won by default...but it counts, right? hehe.

And let's face it. No matter what your opinion of his naughty ways are, Tiger is....bringing sexy back to the game.

Cupid's Revenge was an inspired little novella, for me. I started with a thought, what would happen, if cupid's were humans, hired by heaven...but they got it wrong and chose the wrong person?
And what if the way they delivered their cupid magic, was with a golf club and ball? I have to wonder...was I such a poor shot, sliced so badly, that it has carried over to my muse? Undoubtedly!!

Blurb:
When Heaven bungles their paperwork and recruits the wrong guy as a cupid, who will stop his rampage of revenge?
Ever felt that instant spark when you meet someone you have never seen before? That shot of electricity at the first touch? Or what about an overwhelming sense of déjà vu at a mere glance? No, it’s not love at first sight, but instead it’s the work of a cupid.
Cupids aren’t angels, or the stereotypical cute little cherubs wearing a loincloth and wielding a bow loaded with heart-tipped arrows. Cupids are actually humans, recruited by Heaven for their overwhelming surplus of love within their heart, and gifted with the ability to share a small touch of that love with others—unseen by the human eye as they bring soul-mates together.
But what happens when someone upstairs gets their paperwork mixed up and recruits the wrong person? What happens when the person they recruit has no overflowing amount of love…in fact, they have no love at all within their heart?
Liam is so sick and tired of all the hearts and flowers shit every Valentine’s Day. The build-up to the day…irritating, the actual event…torture. Just for once, he would love to get away from the whole experience. Fate on the other hand has a very sarcastic approach to his plea. An accident at the Heavenly bookkeeping department sees Liam enlisted into the ranks of Creating Unlimited Possibilities Into Destiny…or CUPID for short.
Unable to get a single person to listen to his protests—and teamed with a guy who might actually be cute if he just stopped acting like a kid—he is told to choose his method for deliverance of his love. Liam lets his pissed off attitude choose for him, and revenge on the other cupids becomes his only mission.
This Valentine’s Day, Liam is hunting them down.

And now for the bloghop's Author spotlight - Lily Malone!!

About Lily

Earlier this year, Lily moved from the famous wine region of South Australia, to the equally famous and fabulous wine region that is Margaret River in West Australia. Her gorgeous hubby and two sons (they take after their father) came along for the ride.
Lily took up romance writing in November 2010, after an ill-fated dalliance with colour-field painting that ended when her youngest son put a golf club through the canvas.

She juggles part-time work and family, with writing, and when not writing, likes gardening, walking, wine, and walking in gardens (sometimes with wine).
She has just finished her third published work, Fairway To Heaven, about love on the golf course and lust in the sand bunkers, set in the beautiful beach location of West Australia’s Geographe Bay.
Lily loves to hear from readers and authors. You can find her on Goodreads, and on Facebook, and on Twitter: @lily_lilymalone

Fairway To Heaven - It’s Golf, But Not As You Know It!

One woman’s personal struggle to regain her mojo on a Busselton beach.

The blurb:

When Jennifer Gates drives to Sea Breeze Golf Club to kick off date-night with her boyfriend, the last thing she expects is to find Golf-Pro Jack giving one of his lady students a private—and very personal—lesson in bunker-play.

Lucky for Jenn, her best friend gives her the keys to the Culhane family’s beach shack on the white-pepper shores of Western Australia’s Geographe Bay. Jenn hopes a weekend on the coast with her young son will give her the space she needs to rebuild her confidence after Jack’s betrayal.

But she’s not the only person seeking sanctuary by the sea. Brayden Culhane is there too, and Jenn can’t look at Brayden without remembering the tequila-flavoured kiss they shared on the shack steps years ago.

As long-buried feelings are rekindled, and a friendship is renewed, Jenn knows it is more than lazy summer days bringing her mojo back. Romantic sunsets, ice-cold beers and the odd round of golf can only go so far, because this time, trusting Brayden with her heart won’t be enough.

With all this scullduggery going on, is it any wonder they’ve not got much time for golf?

A little of Cole in his Stocking for #MySexySaturday and @ellen__cross

Welcome to My Sexy Saturday, the weekly blog hop that showcases a little of the participating authors work, whether seven words, sentences, or paragraphs.

Thanks for joining me after my break. For my offering this week, I am teasing you all with a sneak peak into my upcoming Christmas novella, Cole in his Stocking, which will be released with EXtasy Books on the 15th of December.

Cole couldn't hear the pounding footsteps anymore, but that didn't mean much. When you were being chased by creatures that could use portals, it didn't matter where you went, they could, would, find you anywhere.

His feet had long since become numb, but Cole certainly wasn't complaining. The dull burning chill was a far better option than the excruciating pain each step had caused before the cold had set in. When it wore off, he knew he might regret no longer caring what he stepped on. But then again, Cole doubted he would be alive long enough for that to happen. When you pissed off Gerard Gantry, he made sure you never made the same mistake twice, and he made no exceptions...not even for his own son.

Blurb

It doesn't matter if he's been naughty or nice all year. Adam's stocking is still getting stuffed full of Cole, this Christmas.

The coming of age for any vampire is cause for celebration, a time when they first taste blood. For Cole, however, his twenty-fifth birthday brings a terrible choice from his father—either he takes the life of another to prove his worth, or he forfeits his own life. Cole chooses the only way his heart will allow, and pays the price with both his fangs and the rapidly mounting blood starvation that will slowly end his life, now that his body needs to feed, but cannot. He escapes, bleeding, barefoot, and wearing nothing more than a simple cotton sleep-shirt. With his father's sentinels in pursuit, Cole soon finds himself half-frozen and unable to run anymore. The last thing he expects when he crawls into a dumpster to hide away for the last few hours of his life is to be rescued by a temperamental black cat and...aww hell...his cherished one, Adam. How is Cole meant to blood-bond to the wolf hybrid when his time is fast running out, and he has no fangs to even try?  He quickly learns his cherished is far more than he appears, though, and Adam's friends at the Delta Rehabilitation Centre have even higher friends, with a score to settle with his father, of their own. It's just a shame he won't be around long enough to witness their payback.
