eXtasy Advent Calendar, Day 6 with @ellen__cross

Thank you Beany for allowing me to come play during your blog hop *looks at all the shiny things*.

As some of you know, I come from down under in Australia, living in a small beachside town in north-eastern NSW. Our Christmases have always been blistering hot, and since I was a small child, the holiday season signalled the yearly trek to the beach for a caravanning holiday.

Now that I am grown and have a family of my own, those trips are long in the past, but as we live at the beach, we still spend a great majority of our time cooling off any way we can. And who can blame me, check out this view!!

Now, you may think to yourself, "How awesome is that?" well, in my household at least, the Christmas holiday season is the time to stock up on band-aids, panadol, antiseptic lotion, sunscreen, and insect repellant. That's right....the holidays mean arming myself until my bathroom cabinet almost looks like a pharmacy and I carry a first aid kit with me everywhere. And for good reason. With five boys, each holiday season see's at least one person in my family ending up at the E.R needing stitches, x-rays, or so sunburnt they make a lobster look pale. So, while you enjoy your festive season making snowmen, rugging up and carrying a never-ending  supply of tissues for those endlessly dripping noses, think of us Aussie mums who are making great impersonations of boy scouts with out motto, be prepared for anything!

This next pic looks so innocent and cute, right? My youngest needed six stitches to his thigh from a sharp edge on this seaside rock pool the year before last.

And this lovely mysterious allergic reaction happened the last holidays. Those spotches spread all over his chest and back, too. lol.

For my giveaway, I am offering the choice of two books.
Holly's Healing is a MFM contemporary romance, while Cole in his Stocking is a MM paranormal romance.

To go into the draw for one of these Christmas stories, simply let me know what war stories you have of holiday's past, to go into the draw. One lucky commentator will be randomly picked.  Best of luck everyone, and a safe and enjoyable festive season to you all!!

Today's word to collect is:
Don't forget to check back at the The Book Carousel on Facebook tomorrow, to find out where to go for tomorrow's word :)

Meet-The-Character Blog Hop

The lovely Beany Sparks has prodded me into breathing a little new life back in my blog, by joining her in the Meet-The-Character Blog Hop, which was created by Renae Kaye and Meredith Shayne *waves at both*

So, let's get right into it!

What is the name of your character?

I have chosen Morgan, the main character of my latest book, Shifting the Veil. Morgan is not only a merman, but he is also one of the guardians of the Preternatural Rescue Centre.

When and where is the story set?

The story is set in modern day, in the paranormal populated city of Praeter.

What should we know about him?

Morgan is a gentle soul, despite his impulsive nature. He has a high sex drive, which has caused him no end of trouble around the bunker with the other guardians finding mates and flooding the place with their pheromones. Of course, the fact that the bunker isn't soundproofed hasn't helped *grins*
He is determined yet considerate in his attempts to win over his mates (yes, he has two. Seems fate knew with a libido like his, he needed more than one mate to keep up!).

What is the main conflict?  What won’t he talk about?  What messes up his life?

Morgan tends to leap before thinking...literally. He jumps through an enemy portal without a thought, and without backup, leaving him stranded across the veil in enemy territory, following a pull he cannot ignore. Things  get worse when he finds his already bonded mates, and discovers than while Ridley, his dwarf rabbit shifter mate, is more than happy to explore what is between them, Owen, his second mate and otter shifter, wants nothing to do with him. In fact, Owen  would rather Morgan leave both he and Ridley alone.

What is the personal goal of the character? Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

Morgan has always kept the safety of others his main concern. When he discovers the two small caged shifters, another larger shifter imprisoned beside them, he decides then to take them all.
The title for Morgan's story is: Shifting the Veil

BLURB: Jumping through a Mage portal on some sort of instinctual autopilot probably hadn't been the best decision of Morgan’s life, but it did lead him to two pieces of his soul, trapped in not only a cage, but also their animal forms.     Owen and Ridley never thought they'd be free again, living a life of captivity and pain, until a sexy Guardian breaks them out and offers them forever.     While Ridley hungers for Morgan, Owen just wishes the mate-stealing merman would walk away and forget about them both. He may not have to worry about his future for long, though. It's Halloween, and the veil is once again at its weakest. Denzel has failed to break through before, but this time, he has a secret weapon…

When can we expect the book to be published or when was it published?

Shifting the Veil was published on the 15th of October, 2014 with eXtasy Books. It is also available at Amazon, at the links below.

Unfortunately, I have just been recovering from a prolonged illness, and have not been able to gather others to follow on from me, so I will pass the invitation on to anyone who might like to continue on and enlighten others on your characters, to please do so :)

Equal Rights Blog Hop - July 4-11 @ellen__cross

Welcome all to the Equal  Rights Blog Hop

Thanks to Queer Town Abbey, for hosting such a wonderful experience!

The theme for this year, is “Your First experience in the LGBT Community”

My first experience was at school, where a couple of my friends growing up, were gay. My own children now have gay friends in high school, and I am so proud that like me, they are growing up with no question of acceptance, it is just something that, for them, is a part of life.  No questions asked.

I would like to share my latest book with you all, which in it's own way, is a lesson in acceptance, also. While love is love, coming in all shapes and forms, what about when one partner is disabled?

Beyond the Scars—Book 5 of the Preternatural Rescue Centre series—is the story of Lee, a wheelchair-bound human who has spent almost his entire life, locked away, with no explanation why. That is, until a pair of fey warriors, Arra and Cruz rescue him. Arra and Cruz are twin brothers, who—in their own way—have led just as secluded a past, as Lee. In this scene, we explore Lee's first kiss, with his mates, from Arra's point of view.

EXCERPT

"Don't be afraid to open yourself up to us. I know it's hard, to trust someone enough to let them in. We're all learning as we go, and trying to give you the time you need, but it's hard to be so close, yet so far."

Lee's eyes had widened as Arra spoke, his breathing picking up and his whole body tensing. "How can you want me? Are you too blind to see?"

Arra smiled. "We see what you do not. You're our Nanta, our destined one. There is no other for us."

"But how do you know? You said it yourself. There have only been you two, so how do you know?"

"Because, no matter how many times we have shared a bed partner, Cruz and I have never felt the pull at our soul, not even a flicker, until the moment we drew close to you. We didn't even have to see you, to know. You're ours, just as we are yours. We want no other."

"But..."

"Shh. Just close your eyes and feel." Nothing had felt as soft as his mate's lips, as Arra leant close and joined them. Lee gasped, yet opened his lips a little when Arra ran his tongue against the seam. He accepted his mate's invitation and deepened the kiss, enjoying the first taste of his Nanta and committing the unique flavour to memory. A little sweet with the lingering hint of coffee, he could spend all day exploring and sipping at his Lee's lips. He might have, too, if the rustling of fabric at his side and a hand on his shoulder hadn't disturbed him. He knew it was Cruz. The bond they felt as brothers connected them on such a level, that they instinctively knew where the other was.

Arra reluctantly pulled away from Lee, smiling at the way his little mate's eyes remained closed, his lips reddened and parted, wanting more. He looked over at Cruz, whose eyes flared with so much hunger it was almost painful to witness. He knew his brother needed their mate at that moment even more than he did. He slid over, allowing Cruz to take his spot, and felt a saddening in his chest when his brother simply stared into Lee's face, as if he didn't know where to start. Sure, they had had lovers before, but they had been nothing more than a releasing of tension. This was their destiny, all sweet and innocent, so infinitely fragile and yet so strong. Just to look into Lee's eyes was to see true strength.

Cruz reached forward and cupped Lee's face, and Lee opened his eyes at the contact and stared unfocusedly back. Lee looked between Arra and his brother, before his attention drifted back to Cruz. Lee simply stared at Cruz for the longest moment, not blinking, not moving, until Cruz started to pull away, obviously having taken Lee's stillness for hesitation, maybe even rejection. Lee snapped forward before Cruz moved too far, and wrapped his arms around Cruz's neck and stared back with eyes that pleaded for more.

"Don't give up on me. I need you both...just...don't give up on me yet, please."

BLURB

Lee's been locked away for so long that he's forgotten what it's like to have hope, or why he’s been held. When a voice speaks inside his head, telling him help is on the way, he won’t allow himself to believe the words, writing them off as insanity finally taking hold. When help arrives, in the form of a pair of sexy fey warriors who break down the wall to his prison, Lee's fear takes over.

Arrameus and Cruziel crossed the veil as outcasts, years ago. They're Guardians, warriors, known for being ruthless and unstoppable in the battle against the shadowkin. Nothing shakes their resolve, until a small wheelchair-bound human brings them to their knees. He's their Nanta, their destiny, but how will they come to terms with the fact their mate is trapped behind more walls then the one that imprisoned him, and more importantly, how will they break through them?

Catch up!!

I know, I have been slack, and it has been ages since I updated my blog, but I am trying! lol

The Preternatural Rescue Centre is now 4 books in, with book 5 coming out on the 15th of this month!

You have already met the guys from Delta Blues, Cole in his Stocking, and Fractured, but not Controlling His Illusion

Controlling His Illusion

 BLURB:
Grant had made a deal. He would use his talent, and his sister, Kaylee, would get what she needed. What he didn't count on though, was the deal turning sour. Picking up the pieces of the aftermath is more than he can handle, so he turns to the warlock who rescued him for help. He might actually get it, too, if the guy would just stop running.
If Nico had known the little omega he had found was going to turn out to be this much trouble, he might not have rescued him after all. The wolf asked for things he shouldn't, surfaced long neglected instincts that Nico hadn't felt in too long. The wolf pushed, refused to take no for an answer. Only problem was, once you opened the door to something like that, there was no turning back

EXCERPT:
"What the hell are you doing here?"
"Isn't that obvious?" Maurice smiled, but the malice coming off the man was setting Grant's wolf whining inside his head, wanting to run. The man next to Maurice cocked his head, a frown forming as he gestured to Grant's whole body.
"He's a bit on the runty side of things, isn't he? I kind of pictured something more with the way you were going on."
"What does it matter what he looks like? He only needs to suck like a Hoover and bend over. That's it. What more do you need?"
The other man rubbed a hand across his chin. "I suppose you're right. Well, let's get to it." He turned to Grant. "Come here boy, I want you on your knees and my dick down your throat."
Grant took another step back, desperately trying to connect with the side of him that created the illusions, but it remained just out of reach, refusing to cooperate with his fear getting in the way. Normally he had at least an hour to psyche himself up enough to deal with T's visits. Now, he was trying to call on a power that simply wasn't there, considering how far he had drained himself the night before.
"I don't have a deal with you. You need to leave, now!" He was terrified, but he tried to keep it hidden, as he glared at the pair, folding his arms in front of him and standing his ground.
Maurice rolled his eyes and gave an exaggerated sigh, marching over and grabbing onto Grant's arm. There went any chance of an illusion, now. He could only use his talent if he wasn't being touched.
"What the hell is wrong with you, boy? Get on your goddamned knees and suck him. I don't care if you don't want to. You'll do what we say, or the little piece of sweetness I can smell around this place will go bye-bye's!" Maurice's fingers bit into Grant's arm, leaving marks that would undoubtedly show bruises, come morning. The man didn't seem to care if he was hurting Grant at all, he shoved him to the ground by the other man's feet.
"Touch her and I will kill you!"
"The only thing you'll be doing is stuffing Ente's cock down your throat!" Maurice spat, pulling his arm back and collecting the side of Grant's face on the down swing. It felt like a brick hitting his cheek, as Grant was knocked to the ground, blood filling his mouth. He spat it out, nausea rising quickly as his ears rang and his vision blurred for a few seconds. He groaned, crawling to his hands and knees, to stand again.
"Fuck, don't mess up his mouth! He'll cut my cock to pieces if his teeth are all shattered."
Maurice chuckled. "Apologies, Ente. But if I've broken any teeth, I'll just have to knock them all out, for you, won't I? Problem solved."

Excerpt:

Celina grabbed her aching head. Another headache, just like the day before, but perhaps it was more violent. Her stomach lurched uncertainly and she rubbed her belly while it heaved and roiled. It was only four in the afternoon, too early to head home, but she glanced around the office, looking vainly for an escape.
“Hey, Celina? Can you cover for me tomorrow? I’m going to call in sick ‘cause I’ve got a hot date tomorrow night,” Sylvia, her cubicle mate, whispered to her excitedly.
Celina closed her eyes. Great. Just what I need. “Honestly? Syl, I don’t know. I’m not feeling so great.” She mumbled a little,

knowing what Sylvia’s reaction would be.

“Have you been to see the doctor yet?”
Celina swivelled in her seat and cast a dark glance at her workmate. “I’m going to call—” Her words ended abruptly as the lights dimmed and went out. “Damn… This is like the third time this month. What the hell is going on?” The heat of the office space swelled as the air conditioning failed. The cloying scents of a multitude of perfumes and hot sweaty bodies in the summer wave closed in on her.
Celina’s tummy jostled once more, demanding her attention. She rose, racing unerringly to the bathroom, making it just in time to empty the contents violently into the toilet. The clunk of the door somewhere behind alerted her to the fact that she was no longer alone. She sighed loudly. Sylvia had followed her, she knew. The sound of wood banging closed reverberated off the walls. The ensuing echo splintered her thoughts.
“Celina, you have to see the doctor.” There was concern in Sylvia’s voice and Celina shied away from it.
Celina leaned limply against the wall of the stall, the dim security lighting flickering in and out. “Yeah, I think you’re right.” She didn’t want to face it, but the headaches had become an almost everyday occurrence in the past few months. One she’d tried to ignore, but with little success. But something had to be wrong. Her stomach quivered at the possible reasons.
She pushed away from the wall and headed for the sink, turned the tap and was rewarded by the sound of running water. Celina scooped the liquid up, washed her face and swilled some around in her mouth, trying to banish the sour taste. Her knees shook like wet noodles beneath her.
“Okay, I’ll ring in the morning and see how soon I can get in for an appointment.” A sound from outside caught her hearing, a thudding noise, as if someone was testing the door. She wouldn’t be able to hide from the problems for much longer and right now, she really needed some air. “We’d better get out there.”
“Yeah. Okay.” She heard the concern in Sylvia’s voice. “Will you be okay to get home?”
They slowly made their way through the door and back into the office, where the blast of heat and the waft of body essences made her want to gag again. She struggled through one shallow breath then another.
“I’m planning on going straight home anyway.” Celina shuffled towards her desk and groped around in the dark, hunting for her phone. She grasped it in her damp hand and pressed the screen, waiting for it to lighten sufficiently to see her desk. She spied her bag and opened the desk to find her keys. “It looks like these are going to be out for a while. Can you…?” She indicated the light fittings, then towards the office at the end of the row, hoping Sylvia would understand.
“I’ll go tell the supervisor. You go on. Head home and take some painkillers.”
With a small nod, which she quickly regretted as a pulse wavered through her throbbing skull, Celina headed to the emergency stairs. As she passed desks she saw others grabbing up their items, including laptops. No doubt they obviously thought the same thing.
Finally she made her way down the fourteen flights of stairs. On the way she heard many voices, some shrill and others filled with laughter in the darkness. Here and there she caught glimpses of light, probably from mobiles, illuminating the gloom.
One foot after another she plodded down the steps, her head aching viciously and finally, light glowed ahead and a breeze started to clear the stuffy wooliness from her head.

* * * *

Javed shook his head. The missive he held in his hands filled him with emotions he hadn’t experienced in hundreds of years. He knew what it was. It was confusion. The sense of having the carpet jerked out from beneath him. His hands felt clammy.
“So… That’s your destiny, there in your hands.”
His hand shook and the sound of parchment moving back and forth filled the air. He held not just his destiny, but also that of so many others.
He glanced at Xavier, his master, and Hope. They were two very powerful vampires as well as his friends. “I don’t know what to say.”
Hope rose and glided towards him. “You don’t have to say anything. We will say it all. Your leaving us on one level makes us sad, but you will be a master in your own right. You’ve earned this.”
Javed wanted to sputter and stop her words, but he couldn’t. The intent of the letter was clear. On the night of the next full moon, Cressida would grant him his own nest. He would be elevated to the position of master.
If that wasn’t enough to accept, there was the knowledge that there hadn’t been a new house in over a century.
There was so much to do. So many decisions to make and all of them would fall on him. He would need to choose a Yeux Secondes, the human who would oversee the financial and day-to-day aspects of the nest. He would also require a second, a guardian who would stand at his side. A fellow warrior, in whom he could place his trust, one who would help him build a safe haven in their house. He would need witches to help protect the vampires and followers… Where the hell do I even start with that?
“You’ll need a house. Somewhere for your people to call home.” Hope grinned and he saw the lurking humour she couldn’t quell. “I know of an interior designer, if you want their details?”
He rolled his eyes, remembering the problems she’d had with her parents before she had been turned and the way she’d arranged for the entire block of units to be furnished. It had taken her one night to order and arrange for the delivery of all the furniture. Unlike the immense task her mother had proposed.
But her smile died away as her own memories must have surfaced.
“I don’t know about that, but if you’re offering help, then I’ll accept it. I don’t have a clue where to start.” He moved back to the armchair and slumped into it. “I don’t usually concern myself with those types of problem.” He allowed his head to drop into his hands and muttered. “I don’t think I’m ready yet.”
A soft touch on his shoulder captured his attention. “Cressida thinks you are. Otherwise she would not have petitioned the Councillors. Now come on. You need to start planning. We have one month to arrange your investiture…”

Autism Awareness Bloghop - April 15th

As you can see from the banner above, April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day, and this year heralds it's seventh anniversary.

This year, as she has done so for the past three,  RJ Scott is hosting her April Autism Blog Hop, and I am so happy to have been included.

As with all participants,  I have an autism fact to share with you:

"Some people live with autism for their entire lives without ever getting a formal diagnosis"

I have to thank RJ for giving me this fact, as it is so close to the heart. My now fourteen year old has only recently been diagnosed with high functioning autism, after an EIGHT year battle to get him help. He had been branded as lazy, uncooperative, and just generally uninterested in even trying at school, by his teachers, who would simply report that he wasn't trying hard enough and was unwilling to learn, on his report cards.

It wasn't until he followed other boys out of school and truanted, that the school started to take notice, and finally approved the testing I had been begging for, and listened to the counsellor's cries for help.

Even with the results, the battle continues as he looks like a regular kid, just with a few strange quirks and zero social skills.  Add in his younger brother who has ADHD, and our life with two in the spectrum is never dull, but I wouldn't' change it for the world. They are my boys, and as the old saying goes "To  know them, is to love them", and the more awareness we can get out about those who fall under the Autistic spectrum, the more people will realise just how special they really are!

I would like to give away an eBook copy of my last book, Paws, Claws, and their Triple-F, which also highlights differences and acceptance. To win, simply comment and leave your email address. I will randomly pick a name on the 20th of this month. Perhaps you would like to share  your own story with autism, share a fact you have learnt during the hop? I would love to hear from you!

BLURB
Farron had been a bad boy...a playboy, who blamed his lack of connection to another, on Fate.  But Fate has a twisted sense of humour and a special place for those who damn her, as her bitch, and she had a spot all marked out with Farron’s name on it. Tasked with fixing Fate’s screw-ups and helping those who have missed their moment to connect with their soul-mate, the pain of knowing he will never have that for himself is almost more than he can bear. But he does so, with a smile for each couple he unites. That is until he meets an untouched little man who makes him want to curse fate all over again, Ben. No matter how much he wishes it wasn’t so, Ben isn’t for him, though. He’s destined for another, Mason.
Mason fled Tasmania like the devil was on his heels, and it was. Tasmanian devil shifters, that is. As the only submissive devil shifter born, he is driven away, smuggling himself in the boot of a car aboard a ferry to the mainland, to escape the constant physical abuse at the hands of other male devils, over territorial rights. Alone and destitute, his life hits rock bottom as each day his life seeps away a little more. When a gorgeous dingo shifter shows up claiming to be his Fairy Father with promises of bringing him to his mate, Mason could have cried. Not in joy, but in grief. It seems fate has screwed up yet again...as Mason’s time has just run out.
