Ryan hummed tunelessly as he pulled his knees tighter under his chin and wrapped his arms around them, rocking back and forth. He hated the dark, wishing the room he was currently detained in was larger, not that this broom-closet-sized space could actually be classified as a room. Hell, even a few inches more so he could lie down would be good. Sleeping sitting upright, yet slumped over your knees, sucked!
With his legs cramped, the muscles screamed to be stretched, to let the blood flow through his body so his legs would be rid of that numb burning ache that felt like a thousand needles piercing his flesh over and over. But he knew he had this punishment coming the second he had forgotten the rules and broken the most important. He had gone against the number one rule Jayden had insisted of him. Never get too close to the customers.
While letting a customer slap and pinch were okay, grabbing that sexy wolf and rubbing him against his cock had thrown Jayden into a rage. But Ryan couldn’t help it. There was something about the other man that called to him, something that singled out his scent from everyone else in the club. EXCERPT

After a quick phone call to O'Connor—their handler within the council—Marcus led the four of them to the arranged accommodation at a cheap motel across the road from the strip joint. The stained walls and less-than-clean looking bedding of their room at The Cosy Kennel had Gray raising an eyebrow at Marcus, as he finished his quick once-over of the room. Marcus chuckled, "Trust O'Connor to go cheap on the room." He wandered around and poked his head around the corner of the bathroom door, hissing as he pulled back. "I hope you guys weren't planning on using the bathroom. The local roach community is holding a meeting in there. Might be best not to disturb them unless you wanted to be carted away and used for some primitive insect sacrifice. Some of those suckers look like they could give you a run for your money at arm-wrestling, Bo."

Gray turned on Marcus and pointed to the side of one of the matching queen-sized beds taking up the majority of the space in the room. "Sit and start explaining. What the hell was all that back there?"

Marcus eyed the faded paisley print comforter topping the bed with a look of disgust, before gingerly sitting on the very edge. He indicated for the others to take similar positions on the opposite bed.

"We all felt a pull for the little wolf shifter, right?" At the nodded agreement from Lawson and Bo, he continued. "For most of us I take it, the pull was strong but not sexual." He eyed Gray, "And then there's you. You were pumping out enough damn mating pheromones to make a eunuch hard. I'm surprised you didn't jump little red on the stage and claim him there and then in front of us all."

Gray felt his face heating. There was no way he was discussing his cock's reaction to the delicious little shifter. "There was something wrong with his scent. It wasn't right. My wolf might have taken a liking to him, but there was something seriously not right with his scent. It pissed my beast off, actually."

Marcus's eyes narrowed, creases drawing deeply into his forehead as he leant closer and rested his elbows on his knees. "Explain."

Wiping a hand over his face, Gray took a deep breath and tried to gather his thoughts. Bo was still restless, small whimpers escaping as he shook on the bed next to him. Gray wrapped an arm around the smaller man and pulled him close, letting the damaged wolf lean into the nape of his neck to draw his scent in, calming Bo's trembling.

"His scent wasn't natural. Sure he smelt like an all-you-can-eat smorgasbord to my wolf...but when you got close...really close, there was an underlying hint to his musk that just wasn't right. No wolf can smell that aroused, yet be completely soft. The kid rubbed his junk all over my face, as you saw, and I can tell you, he had not one ounce of true arousal coming off him. It was almost like someone had turned on his mating heat, yet turned off his actual physical arousal."

Marcus rubbed a hand over the back of his neck, exhaling loudly in a rush as he looked up at ceiling. "I've heard of something that can do that, but I would need to get closer and take a sniff myself." Gray's beast let a low warning growl slip, surprising even himself with its reaction to Marcus's words.

Marcus chuckled. "Oh yeah...it's you that little red is meant for, all right. The rest of us poor saps are just feeling the pack bond pulling at us, for him. We all know he belongs in our exclusive little pack, in our family. We can feel it deep in our gut...but it's you that he's destined to mate with. Maybe that's why he chose you to rub himself all over, like some unconscious instinct taking over...who knows." Marcus shrugged.  "What we need to do now is figure out how to get to him without starting a pack war."

Welcome to another week of Hump Day Hook!

Where authors from all over the world share a little teaser of a piece of their work, whether published, or a WIP.

This week I will continue on from where we last left off, with the prologue of my WIP, Fractured. In this scene, Krogan sets in motion, a beginning, that will hopefully see a stop to the end. This work is unedited.

 

"We can all see the path that has been set. It is the end, a price each life will pay if we do not act. While we do not have the power to divert the disaster before us, we can deliver those who will.

"Join with me. Let our own blood repair that which is broken, before all life falls to pieces." A round of nods and determined expressions met his request.

Drawing on his shifter spirit, he focused on his life energy, pulling a single hair-fine filament from within his soul and into his awaiting hands. Tiona did the same, holding the golden spark of her thread in her small cupped palms. He guided her to slide her breathtakingly beautiful essence into his palm, to join with his own.

The threads swirled, Krogan's silver essence entwining itself against Tiona's gold. They writhed, rolled, until they blended into one. A bright flare of pure light, that heralded the starting spark of new life, blinded Krogan for an instant. The tiny new life felt warm against his palm, pulsing with a gentle energy, so fragile, yet bursting with promise, with hope.

My Sexy Saturday #19 brings more of upcoming Halloween release, Delta Blues. @ellen__cross

Welcome to week 19 of My Sexy Saturday - The weekly blog hop that shares 7 words, sentences, or paragraphs of participating authors work.

This week, I share more of my upcoming October 15th release, Delta Blues. This work is unedited.

Marcus on the other side of him just frowned as he quietly looked on. What was his problem, anyway? The dancer was seductive as hell as he ran his fingers over the polished, steel pole, caressing it as he would a lover. Fuck if that wasn't the hottest thing Grey had seen in a long while.

It was Marcus's idea they come here of all places to let off some steam, anyway. Deep within the backstreets of Praeter, The Howling was just another dime-a-dozen strip joint, one of a whole string that lined the worst of the worst streets in the exclusively Were-populated town. The only difference Grey could see to this club seemed to be that it appealed to a wider variety of clientele—if the previous act of a pair of female lynx shifters licking cream off each other's naked bodies was anything to go by.
